ok, this is a different weekend for us. My fiancees ex, actually let us take his daughter for the weekend. i adore her and I'm glad to have her here, but her momdropped her off about 15 minutes ago, and her head is so full of lice that they are walking on her face. i know how to treat lice, i need help on how you can untangle a five-year-old's hair when it literally all one big snarl. it looks like her mom hasn't brushed it since the last time we had her here two months ago. it's terrible I neeed to get it brushed so i can delouse it, but I can't get the snarls out. I don't want to just chop her hair off, but the detangler spray we use for my daughter isn't helping at all. Can anybody help me with this?

I think she needs a nice little pixie cut. That way, when mom neglects her hair, it won't matter as much.

I believe there's a chain of salons out there specifically for kids with lice. It is probably expensive, but they may be better able than you to fix this.

really creamy conditioner, wet it, lots of conditioner, rinse, repeat.

Put mayonnaise in her hair. It will help smother the lice and make the hair shiny and slippery enough so you can brush it out. Obviously, after her hair is combed out you can NIX her hair or do whatever you prefer to kill the lice. Here hair may be a little oily from the mayo for a little while and it might take a few shampoos aftewards to get it back to normal but it's better than cutting it off. Good luck!

I'm pretty sure there's a foam lice remover which would mean you could just rub it on her hair without combing it through. Try something like vegetable oil as a detangler but make sure to wash it again afterwards because it will smell. Maybe you and your fiancee should speak to his ex about this.

Unfortunately if baby shampoo and tangle spray aren't working you may have to resort to scissors. Sounds like a call to social services is in order too.

put a heap of conditioner and water in it rub it through untill its a little easier to brush... good luck... poor lil thing!

If it were me, I would cut out the snarl, treat the lice, then take her to the salon to have it styled nicely.

Her Mum SHOULD thank you, but some people can be so ungrateful...........

That girl is being neglected. You should contact child services, even if they don't do anything, they will document the report in case anything else happens. Now, get some good conditioner, wet her hair and leave the conditioner in for ten minutes or so. Then, with the conditioner still in, see if you can tease some of the knots apart. You may have to cut out some of the larger tangles, but you can probably salvage most of it. If her mom doesn't even take the time to brush her hair and keep her free of lice, she doesn't deserve to have a kid. See if your fiancee can get joint or full custody, this kid doesn't need to be growing up the way she is.

Try wetting it and then using a cream conditioner (alot if you have to) and rub it into her hair and scalp and then use your fingers, starting with the scalp and lightly wiggle them back and forth pulling out wards, or midway down her hair and do that same, the conditioner will "grease" up her hair making it slippery and easier to detangle than that detangling spray will do.

I have THICK and naturally curly hair and it is always getting tangled and hard to mannage and this is what I do to detangle my own hair. I hope it works for you!! and thats sad that a mother could let her child live like that. at least she has some one who cares about her!!! Good job stepmom!!!

ok im sorry to tell you this but you stepdaughter is going to have to go through some pain you take a comb or a brush with rakes in them and you brush or comb that hair like heck and if it gets to hurting to much for her take her to a perfishonal and have them deal with it but i would try but first sugestion first bc you don't know how much the perfishonal will cost

Wow. I understand that she is your stepdaughter but with lice like that she would not be coming in my house. Use lots of conditioner and leave it in for a long time. I would say to use the lice medicine anyway. You have to make sure you wash everything that her hair has touched, pillows, couch, even the car can have lice in it. I think you need to pursue this CPS case. That child doesnt deserve to be neglected like that. How can a MOTHER do that to her child?!?!?!?!??! ARGH!
