Big rag curls?

i have thick, straight black hair about 6 inches past my shoulders. i want to get big, sort of wavy curls only on the hair below my face like this (but just the bottom 6 inches of my hair) :

i want to use rag curls because it's better for my hair, but i'm having a hard time understanding how to wrap my hair around the rag and what not. does anyone have any pictures to show the steps? or maybe more detailed directions? thanks a lot =]
